Tooway uses satellite technology to supply homes with fast, flexible broadband internet access. Despite considerable progress over recent years, the digital divide is still very much a reality in Europe. It is estimated that currently 20 million homes across Europe cannot access ADSL or cable networks. That’s why Eutelsat and ViaSat have joined forces to deliver a new system for two-way broadband services. At this moment Tooway4you offers their services via Tooway Ku-band frequencies, with a maximum download speed up to 3.6 Mbps and a maximum upload speed up to 384 Kbps. From summer 2011 a new satellite will be used to supply Tooway, KA-SAT. This new satellite will deliver download speeds up to 10 Mbps and upload speeds up to 4 Mbps.
Tooway KU:
At this moment Tooway4you offers broadband internet via Tooway Ku-band frequencies. This internet service provides download speeds up to 3.6 Mbps and upload speeds up to 384 Kbps. Until now Tooway KU was only offered through the EUROBIRD ™ 3 satellite which is positioned at 33° east. To assure the capacity and quality of the current Internet service by Tooway an additional satellite is being used since February 2011, the ATLANTIC BIRD ™ 1 satellite which is positioned at 12.5° west. Both satellites provide the same broadband Internet service and uses the same hardware and activation procedure. It is recommended to perform the installation by a qualified installer while only with the right measurement equipment you are able to get the best alignment of the system.
Tooway KA-SAT:
From May / June 2011 a new satellite will be entered into service, Tooway KA-SAT. This new satellite will be used for Tooway internet services with download speeds up to 10 Mbps and upload speeds up to 4 Mbps. KA-SAT, positioned at 9° East, will cover the continent with 80 'spot beams', concentrated signals which covers a region of a few hundred kilometers each. This configuration enables frequencies to be reused 20 times and takes total throughput beyond 70 Gbps. Each beam has a capacity of 900 Mbps, which is distributed among the users. Next to the new Tooway KA-SAT, the Tooway KU services will still be provided.
