Satellite dish:

There are 2 common dishes which will be used often in satellite world: the primefocus satellite dish and the offset satellite dish. The round prime focus antenna is perpendicular to the satellite. The offset dish is however slightly oval and is almost vertical upright, making it less susceptible to weather such as snow. For good reception, a minimum of 60cm diameter parabolic dish is required. You can use a fixed satellite dish to receive 1 satellite position. However, at 1 position  multiple satellites can be located, as with the position Astra 1 (19.2 ° E), where 8 satellites are located. If you want to accomplish multiple satellite positions, you need a Duo LNB or a multi-focus single dish with multiple LNBs on 1 dish (an electrically movable dish for several satellites).

> Primefocus satellite dishes: 

With a round prime focus antenna, the dish is perpendicular to the satellite and the LNB is located in the middle of the dish. The dimensions of the prime focus dishes are quite strong and therefore less suitable for installation on a home or wall.

> Multifocus offset satellite dishes:

The offset dish is slightly oval and stands almost vertical upright and is therefore less susceptible to weather such as snow. The LNB is located on one arm underneath the dish, not in sight of the dish. Receiving satellite signals through the dish is thereby not impeded. The popular multi-focus offset dish offers opportunities for reception of multiple satellite positions. By using an LNB bracket for more LNBs, installation by individuals is not complicated.

> Good place for unobstructed reception:

LNB: 

The caught TV signals are collected in the LNB. The LNB is located on an arm on the bottom of the dish or in the center of the dish, depending on the used dish. The TV signals are transmitted by the LNB to the satellite receiver. An LNB can only be linked to 1 satellite receiver. For multiple satellite position, you need more LNBs.

> Different types of LNBs:

There are multiple output LNBs which therefore can be connected to multiple recipients. There may also be multiple LNBs  mounted on a satellite dish to receive a multiple number of satellites. By making use of a DiSEqC switch you can tell the satellite receiver to determine which LNB needs to be used. Each satellite group needs 1 LNB. There are also special monoblock LNBs with two LNBs and a built-in switcher, but also LNBs with 2, 4 and 8 outputs. With this you can connect up to 8 satellite receivers.

DiSEqC switch: 

For switching from one LNB to another, so from one satellite position to another position, you need a switcher / a DiSEqC. The DiSEqC also controls receivers and peripherals such as impellers, LNB switches, etc. From each LNB there is a short cable to the switch and from the switch there is 1 cable to the satellite receiver. If you are going to buy a switch, we recommend to not economize on this. With inexpensive switches it may occur that the signal start leaking, whereby the image quality is adversely affected.

Digital receiver:

Satellite receivers may vary slightly in implementation, such as whether or not equipped with an internal hard drive for simultaneously watching and recording the transmitter (1 tuner). Recipients can also be performed with a double tuner and hard drive for watching a separate TV channel while simultaneously recording another TV channel. If you choose to switch to satellite TV there are a few options. For free TV channels, you only need a simple FTA satellite receiver. For watching one or more packages of Canal Digital or TV Vlaanderen, you need a receiver with a card reader that can handle the smart card for Canal Digital or TV Vlaanderen. However, if you have more wishes, you need a receiver that can decode encrypted channels: a digital receiver with free CI slots.

> FTA satellite receiver:

A satellite receiver  that can only receive and display Free TV stations is called an FTA receiver. A subscription to a provider is not required.

> Satellite receiver with CAM-module (card reader):

In order to view coded television channels, the TV signals needs to be decoded. A receiver must be equipped with the appropriate decoding system. A coding system that is built in the receiver, such as Canal Digital or TV Vlaanderen satellite receivers are called CAM-Module receivers. Within the module  you only need to enter the smartcard of the provider (eg Sky Digital TV or Canal Digitaal). A receiver with CAM module receives alongside the free FTA channels also those TV channels which can be decoded by the scrambling system.

> CI satellite receiver:

A Common Interface (CI) receiver is a satellite receiver in which one or more decoders can be placed (Cam module and smart card). Besides the free TV channels you can watch the coded TV channels which are supported by the internal decoder (s) and / or CI and smartcard modules (s). With CI slots receivers you get the most flexibility. When switching to another provider you only need to buy a new decoder. Almost all new digital receivers with CI slots are currently equipped with the most common connections and operating systems of the satellite receiver.

> HD satellite receiver:

HDTV is gaining popularity quickly. After the hesitant start in the eighties, the invention of the Japanese NHK increasing foothold, as witnessed by the large number of HDTV sets and stations that broadcast in DVB-S2. In the early years of HDTV a HDTV set did cost a fortune. Right now, prices of HDTV differs little with the standard widescreen LCD monitors. HDTV satellite receivers are available in many models. HDTV satellite receivers are a little more expensive than the standard DVB-S receivers, but are also extensively carried out, so with multiple tuners, one or more readers, one or more free CI slots and sometimes with internal hard disks.

Coaxial cable, connectors and other materials:

Satellite systems use F-connectors and coaxial cable for transmission of TV signals from the LNB to the digital satellite receiver. If you are going to buy coaxial cable and F connectors, take good quality. These are better resistant to water and limits the signal loss to a minimum at longer distances from the satellite dish to the receiver.
